McDonnell Dixon are the architects for the ground breaking Ecologic Data Center in Co. Wicklow. Covering over 1.1 million square feet, the overall development will be three times the size of Ireland's current largest datacenter and is designed to be a world class facility attracting key technology companies and investors already operating in Ireland with additional demand coming from the many established multi-national IT, commercial and social network companies operating globally.
The Ecologic datacenter in Newtownmountkennedy will:
All heat produced as waste heat by North Wicklow Technology Park, the Ecologic Datacenter in Newtownmountkennedy, is planned to be utilised to heat local Biodomes and to supply neighbouring villages and businesses with a 24/7 district heating scheme. The North Wicklow Technology Park has been "reverse engineered" to consider the economies of scale in recovering the rejected energy before any data centre design was considered.
Our goal is to be CARBON NEGATIVE. With multiple clean inputs and the recycling of the waste heat for local commercial and residential use. When a mouse is clicked, instead of sending a bubble of carbon dioxide up to the atmosphere as with the common data centre designs, the Ecologic Facility will drag a small bubble of carbon dioxide back from the atmosphere.
The Ecologic Datacentre in Newtownmountkennedy is the only site in Ireland exclusively zoned for datacentre use and is now fully approved by Wicklow County Council. For more information see file no 10/2123 (MO number 10567/10). Read more on wicklow.ie

This project spanned many years, from the early 90's till completion in 2002. It is the culmination of the churches vision for increasing the usability of their premises, and is a sensitive and intelligent response to the brief and to the protected status of the existing building.
At lower ground level are childcare and community facilities. These have been carefully designed for flexibility and in compliance with strict regulations for childcare facilities. At upper ground is the main church body. This was reduced in volume to incorporate additional
levels above it, namely community facilities on 1st floor and apartments on top.
The front facade has been restored to its former glory, and forms a city landmark at the end of Earlsfort terrace.
Set on the grounds of the old Kimmage Cricket ground, this building exemplifies the client's moto, "Excellence is not about doing one thing well, it is about doing everything superbly".
The 25m indoor pool forms the focal point of the interior. To the front are 10 beauticians treatment rooms, reception, cafe, lounge, and behind the pool are change rooms and spa / shower facilities.
The 3 curved roofs, supported by a series lattice trusses and triangular hip members, enclose a vibrant and stimulating space for working out. Each cardio piece is equipped with its own TV monitor, thus members can select their own channel during their workout. On the 1st floor, a 170sqm studio provides for aerobics, yoga and dance classes.
The centre was opened in October 2004, and has received great responses from its new members.
